Most of you know I’ve really been enjoying my LSZ-1 Industrial Sewing Machine from Sailrite. Even though I hadn’t used a sewing machine since 8th grade Home-Ec, Sailrite makes it so easy for anyone to learn how to do truly professional work! I’ve completed quite a few projects and the list keeps growing with items that need to be repaired.
Last year in Grenada was our first sail repair project. We took the genoa down and hauled it up to a flat grassy area at Secret Harbour Marina for easy access. Our buddy Steve from Lunacy (sistership/buddyboat) helped us out in exchange for letting him use the machine for some repairs of his own. He fell in love immediately! The LSZ-1 quickly went to the top of his wish list. He has plenty of sewing experience, and his own machine onboard, but he said this one takes the cake. He was blown away at how easily it handles heavy-duty materials like sailcloth and several layers of Sunbrella.
After hearing how happy we are with their products, Sailrite interviewed us for a feature on their blog. Curious about what we said? Check it out here! “Sailing & Sewing Where The Coconuts Grow”
Hi! I have a 20 year old Bernina that has been my reliable workhorse~ I see linen, cotton, home dec fabric and velvets, not real heavy canvas~ do you think the Sailrite would fit my needs? I’ve considered the Sailrite for its ability to sew heavier fabrics~ thanks!
The Sailrite machines are perfect for heavy duty sewing! They are also able to handle lighter fabrics as well and can take smaller needles for various materials. Very easy to use and operates very smoothly. I only have great things to say about the LSZ-1, which is a must for the zig-zag feature on sail repair jobs. Hope that helps!
We love our Sailrite!!!! We have the same model as you. We also think the company is awesome because of the tools they make available on their website for free. They have videos for just about every project you can imagine. At the end of each is a list of materials they used with stock numbers. They even have an area that helps calculate the amount of material needed for a project to minimize guesswork and waste. This company is a prime example of excellent customer service and web based training. The machines are built like tanks. This is our second machine. The previous one lasted over 20 years (we got it used in a trade).
