I just re-read your salon cushion blog, because I’m finally trying to work up the courage to do ours! Yours turned out great. I hope ours turn out nice too! I’m just in the research phase, trying to figure out what foam and fabric to get, and where to order from. I’ll probably write a blog when I’m finished, too. It’s really great to be able to use your blogs as a reference when I’m tackling a new project! Hope you guys are well and enjoying the BVI!

This solves the fraying best. An easy solution is a hot knife-tip for the butane soldering iron ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000CBJBQ/ ) This also takes care of cutting lines cleanly.

Jody, concerning seam-allowances or not, it’s rather easy: The cushions look best if the stuffing foam is slightly compressed. Thus, if you have the foam already in the correct size, cut the fabric to match the foam core size exactly. The resulting cushions will be look nice but a little smaller. If you start from scratch and need foam and fabric cut, you can add seam allowances so that the resulting cushion will fit exactly to the measures you took. Then the foam-core will be cut a little bigger to fit the fabric size exactly and not the measures you took. As far as I know, that’s also what’s in the videos by Sailrite.

Great job! We have a hot knife and I couldn’t live without it, does pull a bit of amps though. Love your colour choice, white always looks great. Glad to see you both are happy and healthy, miss you guys.
