By the time we took them out for their first sail in the harbor they were pretty comfortable because it was already their home. It was a little bit challenging to get them use to living aboard but its really not that much harder than moving to any new home. Betsy is a natural boat dog and feels comfortable climbing around anywhere. Gunner is a little more awkward but he has no fear :) When underway, they both get pretty quiet, but neither of them have thrown up (even after crossing the Gulf Stream). In our opinion, the dogs are just happy to be where we are. Our home is just a little smaller now. They LOVE the beaches and swimming and always getting new smells from outside. If you are willing to make the accomodations for your dogs, then they should do just fine. It may require a little more patience and DIY ingenuity to find solutions that work for your boat but its possible!! We had to modify our aft companionway ladder to turn into a ramp for our dogs and the special harnesses are our most valuable tool.

I do have one question for you guys about the dogs. I have dogs and sail but never have they gone with me. Was it difficult at first for them living aboard?
