Don’t forget to close the damper after the frig side has chilled down, like after you replace some beer, soda or whatever. The freezer was truely a freezer. On one trip south my wife picked up a small roast that I put in the bottom. We forgot all about it until the trip north in the spring, 5 months later. Frozen rock solid. It’s important keep the frez side as full as possible, zip lock bags with ice cubes works well.
And I know somebody is asking about the power needs. We had 4 gulf cart batteries, a 110 amp. Balmar alt. with smart reg. and two 75 watt solar panels. While at anchor in the Exumas the only time I ran the engine was to move across the harbor or if we had several cloudy days in a row.
I should add that the box had at least 4 inchs of insulation on the sides and bottom with 3 on top.
Good luck.

Two things I did differently: the evaporator was placed against the back of the box and I placed a piece of 2 in. blue foam, glassed each side, across the box the box. This partition had a 3 in. hole, 3 inchs from the bottom, through it with a damper on one side. This piece didn’t go all the way to the lid, maybe 1/2 in. from it on top. This is a ‘spill over’ setup and it made to aft end of the box a freezer. In our three winters in George Town, Exuma we never bought ice and always had cubes, lots of cubes. When I built the system I also made two lids, great help. The front section was a great ‘frig’ with room for plenty of food stuffs and almost a case of beer/soda, great cold sink.
